On Monday April 30th at approx. 4:20 pm St. Stephens units were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident with possible injuries. Upon arrival, St. Stephens units advised a rear end collision with heavy damage to the vehicle. The vehicle had struck a utility truck in the rear and caused heavy damage to the front of the passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle was entrapped due to the force of the impact and heavy damage to the front of the vehicle. Catawba County EMS units arrived and tended to the single patient inside the vehicle. The driver of the utility truck escaped without injury. St. Stephens Fire personnel quickly removed the driver side front and rear door utilizing a 3rd door conversion to extricate the patient of the passenger car. The patient was then packaged and loaded for transport to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
