December 3rd, 2013, members of St. Stephens Fire Department came together to assist with assembling 100 new bikes. This project is in effort to assist the Hickory Fire Bikes for Tikes program. St. Stephens Fire partnered with Hickory Fire to assemble the new bikes for the 2013 Catawba County Christmas Bureau sponsored through the Salvation Army. This program is spearheaded by the Hickory Fire Department and was put in place to help those less fortunate during the Christmas season and a major portion of the efforts put forth will go toward helping children.

St. Stephens Fire Department has been involved with this project for several years and the firefighters look forward to this time to come together in fun and fellowship to assemble the bikes. It is an honor to be a part of a program that will assist children during the Christmas Season that may be less fortunate.

How Bikes for Tykes Works

A campaign is conducted in early October to encourage local citizens to donate bicycles no longer being utilized. These bikes may be dropped off at any of the seven (7) Hickory Fire Stations. With the help of firefighters, local churches, and other organizations, we inspect and repair these bikes. The bikes are then given away during the Christmas season.

How Can YOU Make a Difference?

While the generosity of those who have donated bikes has been great, the supply of bikes is greatly outweighed by the demand. In order to ensure that no child is denied a bicycle, we need your help.
Bikes for Tykes new goal are to give more new bicycles than used ones.
What a noble gesture you have a chance to do, giving to kids what their loved ones may not be able to afford themselves.
