| On Saturday September 25th, the St. Stephens Fire Department held a rather large gathering to bring together all of the families for some fun, food, comradary, and relaxation. Although we were still on call to respond to emergencies, smiles and laughter were a plenty. Attendees included the families of the current membership, retired members, and our board of directors. The children in attendance were greeted with a large Batman inflatable for their jumping pleasure, and Becky the Balloon Lady was on site to make them any type of balloon creation they could imagine. But dont think for a minute that the older crowd didnt partake in the festivities as well. You didnt have to look far to find a fireman walking around with a silly looking balloon hat and even retired members took home some creations of their own. While the food was being prepared, cornhole games were played and others were warming up and practicing for the ragball game that would top off the evening. Once everyone had a full belly, it was time for the ragball game to start while the homemade ice-cream was making. The teams were chosen and everyone was ready to go, but after 3 innings, the skies opened up and the game was cut short due to rain. But the fun didnt stop there. Everyone gathered under shelter to enjoy the many ice cream flavors while the kids ran around in the rain and made mud pies at home plate. Its been a couple of months since we have had any substantial rainfall so maybe this is a sign. If this is what it takes to get rain, maybe we need to do this more often.
The St. Stephens Fire Department would like to extend a very special Thank You to the St. Stephens Optimist Park for the use of the facilities and also former member Jimmy Burns. Jimmy is a coach and an umpire for the optimist and his help was very much appreciated on this day. |
