May 5th at approximately 6:30 pm the St. Stephens Fire Dept. responded to a report of smoke coming from the eaves of a home on Colonial Lane. First arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the attic area of the home. Engine 41 was the first apparatus on the scene and spotted a hydrant across from the residence where a 5" supply line was secured. Incident command was established and firefighters quickly went to work on the unoccupied split foyer type residence. Initial attack crews stretched hose lines to the front door where entry had to be forced while another crew went to the roof to ventilate the structure. A second alarm was transmitted for additional manpower and also a mutual aid company from Conover Fire. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly and minimize damage to the residence.
There were no injuries reported and the cause is under investigation by the Catawba County Fire Marshall's Office. The St. Stephens Fire Dept. would like to thank the Conover Fire Dept. and all other agencies involved with this incident.
